Geocaching Manual

You have heard a lot about Geocaching and decided to give it a try.

How do you get started?

You ne4ed to get Geocaching Information! If you have never done any Geocaching, the best way to start is to search for a cache in your neighbourhood. Below are the steps to get started.  

1.     Visit the Online Site for Geocaching where all the caches are registered

2.     Register for an account, it is completely free.

3.     On the left hand side is a menu. Click on "Hide & Seek a Cache"

4.     Go to the Seek a Geocache area in the next screen and select a State (US only) or Country. In this example we will go to Canada.

5.     On the next screen select "All Geocaches" and search by "Postal Code."

6.     Enter your Postal Code.

7.     Press "Seek"

This will bring up a screen showing you all Geocaches hidden in your area. It also shows you the distance and the direction. You might be surprised at the amount of Geocaches hidden so close to your home. It gives you a feeling of excitement.

8.     Choose any Geocache from the list and click on its name.

In This Example you are asked to answer some questions. It is a good idea to print out the page and take it along on your search. Sometimes the comments can give you additional hints.

9.     Enter the coordinates of the Geocache into your GPS unit.

10.   Use your GPS unit to assist you in finding the hidden Geocache.

The Geocache we used in this example is hidden in a sensitive ecological area and you are not allowed to leave the trail. The trail is wheelchair accessible.
